Eight Husky Team Demonstration

The Siberian Husky was the winter sled dog of the Chukchi people of Siberia.

huskysnowHuskies were expected to travel fairly quickly for long distances pulling a moderate load in low temperatures, while not eating their masters out of house and home.

During the summer they ran loose, hunting and fending for themselves. This lifestyle, which continued unchanged for centuries, produced a breed of dog which retained the pack living and hunting attributes of the wolf, while being unaggressive and affectionate towards people.

Yvonne Keene and Kevin Hale have been racing their huskies for about eleven years. The huskies can be raced in teams of two, three, four, six and eight, provided the weather does not get warmer than 15 degrees. When training in the Forest of Dean, up to eight dogs run behind their quad bike.

Kevin has been ABSA (Affiliated British Sled-dog Activity) 2 dog champion for many years and even now with the dogs getting older still is up in the top 5 of the country.

At the Vale Country Fair  we are very pleased to announce that Yvonne intends to run the huskies on the race track at 11.30am (provided it is not too warm) to demonstrate what these wonderful animals do best.  When the dogs are not racing, they will be tied to stakes near the dog show ring in a shady spot, where they will welcome pats and strokes.
